Philip Cohen

Grangegorman Histories Working Group Chair

Philip Cohen lives in Cabra. He retired recently, after almost 15 years as Head of Library Services at Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT). During his time with DIT, Philip became well-acquainted with Grangegorman and its history.

Philip received his PhD in 1986 for a thesis on the History of Water Management on the Welsh River Dee, 1750 to the Present Day. This study of social, political and institutional history also considered the development and repurposing of physical structures built over time. It had distinct similarities, therefore, with the history of Grangegorman.

As Chair of the Grangegorman Histories Expert Working Group, Philip is keen to work with others to co-ordinate research into and promotion of the history and heritage of this important site.
