New Chair Elected to the RIA Culture and Heritage Working Group

In the light of the Government’s Culture and Creativity Capital Plan, which details an intent to fortify investment in a range of cultural activities and enterprises, the Royal Irish Academy’s Culture and Heritage Working Group acts as a facilitator for discussion of opinions and ideas on contemporary Irish cultural and heritage policy and practice. The Culture and Heritage Working Group operates in partnership with other cultural and heritage bodies and groups and has strong links to the Government’s Creative Ireland programme and Heritage Ireland 2030. The Working Group has held forums on future heritage policy and the  position of libraries, archives and museums in Ireland, as well as publishing a series of discussion papers exploring aspects of creativity in the sciences, music, and the Gaeltacht, the Irish language, folklore and the vernacular, while further papers on museums and on archival depositories and libraries are currently in development following recent consultations.

The Academy also offers its thanks and gratitude to Mary Canning, MRIA, who now stands down from the group in order to take up her role as President of the Academy.
