Call for Nominations for the scientific committee of ‘Fact or Fake’

17 April 2020

ALLEA are seeking experts for a new project on scientific disinformation.

ALLEA, the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities, has begun a new project, co-funded by the Turin-based foundation Compagnia di San Paolo, with the objective to provide new insights and develop recommendations in the area of scientific disinformation, by identifying and analysing root causes leading to science-averse attitudes in the publics across European countries and regions.

This novel project will involve a multi-disciplinary and multi-sectorial scientific committee. The group of experts will have the primary goal to discuss and prepare a statement with crucial advice on the issues and questions pertaining to the project's topic. The range of expertise sought includes experts from:

  • Communications and journalism studies
  • Economics and behaviour science
  • Computer science
  • Psychology, sociology and social anthropology
  • Political science
  • Philosophy
  • History
  • Science communication and other relevant fields

It is envisaged that there will be two/three virtual meetings and subject to further developments, one expert/stakeholder workshop held in person.  A discussion paper 'Tackling scientific disinformation' is expected to be finalised by the end of 2020 and officially launched in Berlin in March 2021

To express an interest in being nominated to this working group by the Royal Irish Academy, please provide a single document containing a short curriculum vitae (no longer than two pages) and a short explanation on how your experience meets the areas of expertise needed to policy@ria.ie by 1 May 2020.
