Professor of Geochemistry at UCD School of Earth Sciences and former Head of School. Member of the Royal Irish Academy. Geologist and Geochemist with more than 30 years experience. Associate editor with the geochemistry journal Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta. Experience of a wide range of basic and applied research topics in both low- and high-temperature geochemistry. Current research includes investigating basalt and alkaline waste weathering for carbon dioxide removal from the atmosphere, chemical weathering, groundwater geochemistry, U-series geochronology, palaeoclimatology, atmospheric dynamics and climate change, hominid evolution and U-series dating of a range of secondary carbonate deposits for palaeoclimatology and paleoanthropology.
