The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Joseph Ryan

Chief Executive Officer Technological Higher Education Association (THEA)

Joseph Ryan is the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the Technological Higher Education Association (THEA) established to represent the technological sector.  Dr Ryan was previously the Vice President Academic & Registrar of Athlone Institute of Technology.  A musician by formation, Dr Ryan was formerly Executive Officer for the Defence Forces School of Music and Chair of the Contemporary Music Centre.  He also chaired the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning and is currently chair of EduCampus.
