Curriculum-linked primary and post-primary lesson plans based on A history of Ireland in 100 objects

06 October 2020

These teaching resources have been designed to be both stimulating to students and integral to the relevant school curriculum.

A history of Ireland in 100 objects, by Fintan O’Toole, takes a wide selection of objects and explores their significance in shaping Ireland. Photographs are accompanied by a concise and insightful story that shows the social, political and artistic vitality of each object, beginning with Mesolithic Ireland and ending in modern times.

A series of lesson plans, catering for both primary and post-primary students, has been designed to support cross-curricular learning and to help schools promote the development of the arts and raise awareness of cultural heritage.

Each of the objects featuring in our educational programme offers a selection of resources that includes some or all of the following: multi-media content, downloadable worksheets, lessons plans and quizzes. The material has been double-blind reviewed by academics and teachers, and piloted in five schools.

A history of Ireland in 100 objects is one of the many educational resources developed by the Royal Irish Academy. You can explore the full range on our dedicated page.
