Lesson plans tied to the Irish curriculum to support Art and Architecture of Ireland at Junior and Leaving Certificate level

Art and Architecture of Ireland is an authoritative, fully illustrated account of art and architecture in Ireland from the early middle ages to the end of the twentieth century. The five volumes explore all aspects of Irish art and architecture – from high crosses to installation art, from Georgian houses to illuminated manuscripts, from watercolours and sculptures to photography, oil paintings, video art and tapestries.

The eBook of Art and Architecture of Ireland is now freely available to download in all schools, universities and libraries throughout the island of Ireland. If your library is registered with JSTOR, you can download the eBooks for free. On-site access, facilitated through Scoilnet, is now available to all pupils and teachers in every school in Ireland.

Scoilnet, the official portal for Irish education of the Department of Education and Skills, host lesson plans for history teachers teaching junior and senior cycle. Designed by teachers, these educational resources cover each of the five volumes and reference the chapter and page number to make them really easy to use.

Other resources available from our website include a gallery of images from the five volumes; a series of podcasts presented by RTÉ's Arts Tonight featuring the Art and Architecture of Ireland project; and short pieces on individual artworks which were originally published weekly in The Irish Times and then collected in a stand-alone book, Modern Ireland in 100 artworks, edited by Fintan O’Toole.
