The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

New open access issue of Biology and Environment available online

The issue, edited by Mary Kelly-Quinn, features a selection of pa­pers originally presented at Ire­land’s first National Biodiversity Conference, ‘New Horizons for Nature’, which was held in February 2019 and hosted by the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Irish Forum on Natural Capital.

The papers in this special issue aim to broaden the conversation on how to tackle biodiversity loss by synthesising an import­ant body of information relevant to the protection and management of biodiversity within the human socio-economic arena. The special issue is supported by the National Parks & Wildlife Service of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
