Hannah McGee

Professor of Psychology and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences RCSI

Hannah McGee is Professor of Psychology and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences. As RCSI’s chief academic officer, she is responsible for the quality of degree-awarding activities in Dublin - and in RCSI’s overseas campuses in Bahrain, Dubai and Malaysia. A graduate of Trinity College Dublin (BA (Mod): Physiology/ Psychology] and PhD in Psychology), she was awarded a Doctor of Science (DSc) for published work by the National University of Ireland (NUI)(2015).

Previous leadership roles include President of the Psychological Society of Ireland, President of the European Health Psychology Society, Chair of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Section, European Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation and Chair of the Council of Deans of Faculties with Medical Schools in Ireland. 

Her research and evaluation projects have informed national health and social policy in areas of quality of life assessment, cardiac rehabilitation, ageing and sexual health. These include the milestone SAVI (Sexual Abuse and Violence in Ireland) study – a national prevalence survey, 2002).

She is or has been a member of the Council of the Economic and Social Research Institute, the Oversight Board of TILDA (the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing), the Board of the National Children’s Research Centre and the Board of the (Irish) Health Research Board. From 2008, she was Chair of the Ministerial Committee to develop the Irish Cardiovascular Health Policy – “Changing Cardiovascular Health. National Policy 2010-2019.” Earlier this year, she was appointed by the Minister for Health as deputy-chair of the National Research Ethics Committee for COVID-19 Research.
