The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

John Mee

Teagasc

Dr. John F. Mee, MVB (NUI), MVM (NUI), PhD (NUI), Dip ECBHM (ECVS), MRCVS (RVC)

Dr. John Mee is the Principal Veterinary Research Scientist in Teagasc, the Irish national organization for agricultural research, advice and education. He works at the national dairy research centre in Moorepark, Co. Cork. He carries out animal health, welfare and theriogenology research in dairy and beef cattle and in sheep. His current research interests include perinatal and young stock management and diseases, herd health, biosecurity and endemic infectious and parasitic conditions of cattle and sheep.

John has over 35-years’ experience as PI in Teagasc and previously in universities and research institutions in Australia and in New Zealand and in public (Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine) and private veterinary practice. 

Dr. Mee is a European College of Veterinary Surgeons’ board-certified specialist in bovine health management, a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons’, UK registered specialist in cattle health and production and a Veterinary Council of Ireland accredited dual specialist in bovine health and in bovine perinatology. 

He has co-authored over 1,400 scientific publications including over 130 peer-reviewed papers and has co-edited and co-authored three textbooks and numerous book chapters, generating an h-index of 30.  John has been invited to review for over 60 bioscience journals as well as acting on the Editorial Boards of four scientific journals including Deputy Editor of the Irish Veterinary Journal. He has been invited to lecture in over 30 countries at numerous world buiatrics conferences. Dr. Mee currently teaches and leads modules on nine undergraduate and postgraduate agricultural and veterinary medicine courses at UCD, UCC, WIT, University of Liverpool and Universidad Catolica de Valencia in Spain. 

Dr. Mee is a founding member of multiple Animal Health Ireland Technical Working Groups and maintains active collaborative links with AHI, CCC, DAFM-RVLs, ICBF, UCC, UCD, UCG and agri-tech companies.
