DRI Welcomes Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council as Member

The DLRCoCo Corporate Archive Collection consists of the records and related documents of the four local authority townships of Blackrock, Dalkey, Killiney-Ballybrack, and Dún Laoghaire, and later those of the amalgamated body, Dún Laoghaire Corporation. In addition, Archive Services is responsible for the documentary history of properties such as Marlay House, Cabinteely House, Fernhill, and the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Harbour Company. Through working with DRI, DLRCoCo plans to learn about the role technology now plays in enabling the preservation of the collection and in bringing it to as wide an audience as possible, and to bring this expertise to the curation of its own archives.

Leonora Earls, DLRCoCo’s Director of Service with responsibility for Archive Services, spoke of the importance to the organisation of becoming a member:

The Council is delighted to join the Digital Repository of Ireland. We are conscious of the growing role that digital technology plays in the curation of archive collections and this is reflected in our own plans for the improved care and accessibility of this side of our heritage.

We are looking forward to learning from the expertise of DRI, to sharing information, and learning from experience with the DRI team and our fellow members. DRI has developed outstanding and innovative ways for the long-term custodianship of our national and local resources and we are looking forward to being a part of this exciting initiative.

It is my pleasure to welcome Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to the growing DRI membership, with its distinctive corporate archive that covers a range of townships and properties with a breadth of contemporary and historical significance. Membership with DRI is the entry to a community of best practice and knowledge exchange about digital preservation and digital archiving practices, so we are delighted that DLRCoCo is particularly interested in these areas – we will all grow our practices together.

DLRCoCo is the sixth County Council to join DRI as members. We look forward to working with DLRCoCo as part of our rich network of national and international collaborators involved in digital preservation, sharing education and training resources, and safeguarding DLRCoCo’s collections for long-term preservation and sustained access.
