The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

New Decade of Centenaries Bursary scheme opened

A new Royal Irish Academy local history research fund has been announced by Minister Martin as part of the Decade of Centenaries Programme 

The Decade of Centenaries bursary scheme has been established to encourage and support new local research and local history studies in meaningful examination of local, regional, and national events during the Struggle for Independence and Civil War period.  

It is anticipated that up to 8 awards under the scheme will be made annually. Applications will be invited for amounts ranging from €1,000 to €10,000.
