We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Julian D. Reynolds

Julian D. Reynolds is a Fellow Emeritus of Zoology at Trinity College Dublin. His research expertise includes aquatic biology and conservation, particularly biology of freshwater crayfish and other crustaceans, eels and water beetles; ecology of freshwater bodies including turloughs, springs and bog pools; water quality of streams; terrestrial ecology - flora and invertebrate fauna of terrestrial habitats; ecology of otters; biodiversity and conservation management; glacial relicts and postglacial colonisation; protected species and threatened biotopes; alien invasive species. He is the editor of The Conservation of Aquatic Systems: Proceedings of a Seminar Held on 18-19 February 1993.
