We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Guy Beiner

Guy Beiner is the Sullivan Chair in Irish Studies at Boston College and professor of modern history at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. His books on Irish history and memory include Remembering the year of the French: Irish folk history and social memory (University of Wisconsin Press, 2007) and Forgetful remembrance: social forgetting and vernacular historiography of a rebellion in Ulster (Oxford University Press, 2018). He is the editor of Pandemic re-awakenings: the forgotten and unforgotten ‘Spanish’ Flu of 1918–1919 (Oxford University Press, 2021).
