The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Riann Coulter

Riann Coulter is a curator and art historian specialising in Irish and British modern and contemporary art. A graduate of Trinity College Dublin and the Courtauld Institute of Art, London, she has been awarded postdoctoral fellowships by the Paul Mellon Centre for British Art and the Irish Research Council. She has twenty years’ experience curating and co-curating exhibitions for regional and national institutions throughout Ireland, including the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Royal Hibernian Academy, the National Gallery of Ireland, National Museums Northern Ireland and the F.E. McWilliam Gallery, where she has been curator and manager since 2009. Riann has published extensively on Irish and Northern Irish art, and has served on the Boards of the Northern Ireland Museums Council, the Irish Museums Association and National Museums Northern Ireland.
