The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Linda King

Linda King is a design historian and educator. She is also a regular contributor to radio and television on Irish design as cultural history, including as the design curator/consultant for the RTÉ1 television series, National Treasures. She sits on the Board of the National Museum of Ireland and is Senior Lecturer in Design and Visual Culture at the Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Dublin. Her early career was as a graphic designer and she has published extensively on the history of Irish graphic design and Irish design and visual culture more broadly. She has contributed several essays to Royal Irish Academy publications including on cara magazine and Irish tourism for Ireland in the European Eye (2019), on fashion designer Sybil Connolly and graphic designer Guus Melai for Modern Ireland in 100 artworks (2016), and on the history of Irish design and Dublin philanthropic architecture for the Art and architecture of Ireland series (2014). She is co-editor of Ireland, design and visual culture: negotiating modernity, 1922–1992 (2011) and recipient of the Institute of Designers in Ireland award for ‘Outstanding contribution to Irish Design’. She is a member of the International Association of Art Critics and the Irish Association of Professional Historians.
