THE ROYAL IRISH ACADEMY IS IRELAND'S LEADING BODY OF EXPERTS IN THE SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest Academic honour in Ireland.

International Affairs Standing Committee

The International Affairs Standing Committee was established in September 2014.It is a standing committee within the Academy’s Social Sciences Committee.

The committee works closely with the Academy’s publication team to produce the Irish Studies in International Affairs journal. In conjunction with this the committee organise a one day seminar each year to present papers on a chosen theme for the journal.

Since their establishment the committee have organised roundtable discussions with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on their Strategy, The Global Island (March 2015) and with the Department of Defence on their White paper on Defence (January 2016).
