The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Dr Jennifer McManus is the Head of the Department of Chemistry and leads the Soft Matter and Biophysical Chemistry research group at Maynooth University. She completed a B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Chemistry at University College Dublin and was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Fribourg and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She established a research group at Maynooth University as a SFI Stokes Lecturer in 2008 and became Head of Department in 2017.
