We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Eminent French physicist, Professor Alain Aspect, ForMemRS, of the Université Paris-Saclay, will deliver the 2019 John Bell Day Lecture in Queen's University Belfast

This lecture series is hosted by the Chief Executives’ Club at Queen’s and the Royal Irish Academy, and supported by the Queen’s School of Mathematics and Physics.

Pre-lecture refreshments will be served from 5.30pm in the First Derivatives Room on the second floor and the lecture will begin at 6.00pm sharp in lecture room 02.027, Computer Science Building, Queen's University Belfast.
