The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Joseph Lacey

Political Scientist UCD

Joseph Lacey is a political scientist at University College Dublin. His work focuses on themes relating to democracy, elections and EU politics. From 2023-2028, he will be Principal Investigator on the ELECT project, which explores normative issues in modern election campaigns internationally. Following his PhD at the European University Institute, Joseph was a Junior Research Fellow at the University of Oxford. His monograph, Centripetal Democracy, won the 2018 Brian Farrell Best Book Prize. His public commentary has featured in a variety of outlets, including The Irish Times and The Washington Post.
