The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Kalpana Shankar

UCD

Kalpana Shankar is Professor of Information and Communication Studies at University College Dublin.  Her research and teaching interests include human-data practices, the nature of data and records, and the processes of research itself. Current projects include a study of longevity in social science data archiving (funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation) and a study of peer review processes at Science Foundation Ireland (funded by SFI).  She is also a Fellow of the UCD Geary Institute.
