The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Karl Levdecker

University of Aberdeen

Professor Karl Leydecker joined the University of Aberdeen as Senior Vice-Principal in March 2019.  He is the line manager of the Heads of School, and has strategic oversight of the People, Digital and Estates Strategies and also the institutional strategic planning processes, including the Outcome Agreement with the Scottish Funding Council. He led the development of the University’s Aberdeen 2040 Strategic Plan launched in February 2020. Karl was previously Vice-Principal (Learning and Teaching) and Professor of German and Comparative Literature at University of Dundee from 2013. From 2017-2019 he led Scotland’s QAA Enhancement Theme Evidence for Enhancement.
