The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Laura Devaney

Social Scientist DCU

Dr Laura Devaney is a social scientist with a PhD in human geography from Trinity College Dublin. Her research interests are in environmental, food, transport, bioeconomy and climate governance, centring on the transition to a more sustainable future and the supports required to achieve this. She has research experience across Ireland, Europe, the US and Canada, completing postdoctoral roles in Trinity College Dublin, Teagasc and Dalhousie University Nova Scotia. She was also the Fulbright-EPA Scholar 2017-18, hosted at the University of California in Berkeley. Laura has collaborated with the Department of the Taoiseach and the National Economic and Social Council developing evidence bases for sustainability policy development in Ireland, with a passion for stakeholder engagement for climate action. She is currently based in the School of Law and Government at Dublin City University undertaking a review of the Citizens' Assembly on climate change and developing a public engagement toolkit for policymakers on this topic.
