The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Luke Drury is the Chair of the ALLEA Open Science Taskforce. Since its foundation in June 2020, the ALLEA Open Science Task Force aims to contribute to the development, coordination and implementation of Open Science policies and initiatives with a particular emphasis on issues relevant to the greater European area. It draws on the expertise of ALLEA's academy members in promoting science across all disciplines as a global public good that is as open as possible and as closed as necessary.
