An electronics and telecommunications engineering academic in the University of Limerick since 1984, in positions of Senior Lecturer and Director, Telecommunications Research Centre; and Member, UL Governing Authority. Previously served as lecturer in UCD and NUIG. He is/was: IEEE Subject Matter Expert; Invited Expert of the United Nations’ International Telecommunications Union (ITU-T), Geneva ; President of International Union of Radio Science (URSI) Official Commission Members Ireland; Past Chairman of RIA Communications and Radio Science Committee (2008-2014); Member, MC, Castleville Study Centre, Limerick; Director, ODR Patents; Director, FamED.
Contributions towards developing scholarly research include:
Founding MC Member of the EU Networks of Excellence TARGET –Top Amplifier Research Groups in a European Team–; and ANWIRE –Academic Network for Wireless Internet Research in Europe; the All-Ireland Telecommunications Graduate Initiative (TGI) Structured PhD programme; Ireland’s delegate on the MCs of several European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Research Actions.
Publications:
Author and co-author of over 250 research publications covering books and book chapters, learned journal papers, and papers in proceedings books of international and national conferences.
Research fields:
Behavioral modeling, linearization & efficiency techniques in multimode, multiband, multicarrier broadband nonlinear RF microwave power amplifiers; complex wireless telecommunication systems simulation; wireless network and protocol infrastructural innovations, especially Ubiquitous Consumer Wireless World (UCWW), integrated heterogeneous networking, cognitive radio systems and Internet of Things (IoT).
