We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Mary Deevy

Mary Deevy is a Senior Archaeologist in TII, with 17 years of experience managing the archaeological aspects of national road projects through all phases - procuring and managing contracts, programmes, budgets, quality control and deliverables including publications.

Her previous archaeological experience includes medieval jewellery research and publication, compiling a heritage directory for Archaeology Ireland and the Heritage Council, wood specialist analysis for the National Museum of Ireland, tutoring at UCD and lecturing at NUI Maynooth.

Her fieldwork background includes being a licenced excavation director in the commercial sector, a supervisor on a number of research excavations for the Discovery Programme including Dun Aonghasa and Ráith na Rí, Tara, and a site assistant on various urban and rural developer funded excavations.

Mary is a graduate of UCD (BA Archaeology and History of Art 1992, MA Archaeology 1995). As a student she worked on the Ceide Fields surveys, the Corlea trackway excavations, and as a ‘Bog Body’ trainee with the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit.
