The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Mary Deevy MIAI

Transport Infrastructure Ireland – TII’s purpose is to provide sustainable transport infrastructure and services, delivering a better quality of life, supporting economic growth and respecting the environment. 

Mary Deevy is a Senior Archaeologist in TII, with over 20 years’ experience managing the archaeological aspects of national road projects through all phases - procuring and managing contracts, programmes, budgets, quality control and deliverables including publications. Recent highlights include being Project Archaeologist for the advance archaeological services on the N5 Ballaghadereen to Scramoge roadscheme, near Rathcroghan, which produced fabulous archaeological finds including the Gortnacrannagh Idol. 

Her previous archaeological experience includes medieval jewellery research and publication, compiling a heritage directory for Archaeology Ireland and the Heritage Council, wood specialist analysis for the National Museum of Ireland, tutoring at UCD and lecturing at NUI Maynooth. 

Her fieldwork background includes being a licenced excavation director in the commercial sector, a supervisor on a number of research excavations for the Discovery Programme including Dun Aonghasa and Ráith na Rí, Tara, and a site assistant on various urban and rural developer funded excavations. 

Mary is a graduate of UCD (BA Archaeology and History of Art 1992, MA Archaeology 1995). As a student she worked on the Ceide Fields surveys, the Corlea trackway excavations, and as a ‘Bog Body’ trainee with the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit.
