The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

The Mathematical Proceedings of the Royal Irish Academy is a peer-reviewed journal which publishes original research in pure and applied mathematics. Exceptionally, survey articles of topics of current research interest that present new points of view or major simplifications are also published.

About the author

Martin Mathieu

Martin Mathieu obtained his doctorate and Privatdozent from the University of Tübingen in Germany. He lectured and did research in many universities in Europe and North America, including at Trinity College Dublin and Maynooth University, before taking up his present position in Queen's University Belfast. His research area is that part of pure Mathematics called functional analysis, and he is a world authority on the theory of local multiplier algebras.
