2014 Royal Irish Academy-Royal Society Cost Share Award Winners

Dr David O’Regan, Trinity College Dublin, and Dr Claus Pahl, Dublin City University, have both been selected to receive a prestigious Royal Irish Academy-Royal Society International Exchange Cost-Share award in 2014.

Dr David O’Regan won his grant for a project in the field of Physical Sciences entitled “Advanced new linear-scaling constrained density-functional theory approaches”. He has recently returned to Ireland from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, to build a new research group at the School of Physics, Trinity College Dublin, where he is Assistant Professor in Condensed Matter Theory.

Dr O’Regan and his team will travel to the Stephenson Institute for Renewable Energy, University of Liverpool, to collaborate with Dr Gilberto Teobaldi.

Dr Claus Pahl won his grant for a project to explore the use of intelligent semantic and architecture technologies to recommend the best cloud migration processes and define the most suitable cloud infrastructure, platform and services to host and support migrated software applications. Dr Pahl is the Deputy Director of the CloudCORE Research Centre and Principal Investigator and Architecture Lead at the Irish Centre for Cloud Computing and Commerce (IC4). Claus is also a co-principal investigator at the Centre for Global Intelligent Content CNGL.

Dr Pahl’s team will travel to Edinburgh Napier University to work with Dr Xiaodong Liu.
