Recordings from 'The Power of a Photograph: Collecting and Digital Preservation in Times of Social Change' now available

06 July 2020

This online event was co-organised by the Digital Repository of Ireland and the National Archives, Ireland and was held via Zoom on 16 June 2020.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is widespread awareness of the importance of digitally preserving the historical moment for future generations. But how safe are photographs and other digital ephemera? Should they be shared more widely to become part of a collective memory?

On 16 June 2020 the Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) and National Archives Ireland organised an online event in which Della Keating and Joanna Finegan of the National Library of Ireland addressed the question ‘what will we know about the present in 100 years’ time if an important aspect of Irish culture is not preserved now?’.

The recordings of their presentations in which they discuss some of the challenges and issues around long-term preservation of digital material are available to watch on the DRI website
