About the Academy

The Royal Irish Academy (RIA) /Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann is a predominantly publicly funded institution established for the promotion of learning in the sciences and humanities across the island of Ireland. The Academy was established by Royal Charter in 1786 and is governed by the Charter and a set of by-laws. However, as a body that receives the majority of its funding from the exchequer, it is also subject to the provisions of the Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies. The three main strands of the Academy’s role, as outlined in its latest Strategic Plan, are to:

  • Be an independent voice on higher education and public policy
  • Represent the world of Irish scholarship internationally

About DRI

The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) is the national trusted digital repository for Ireland's social and cultural data. The repository links together and preserves both historical and contemporary data held by Irish institutions, providing a central internet access point and interactive multimedia tools. As a national e-infrastructure for the future of education and research in the humanities and social sciences, DRI is available for use by the public, students and scholars. Originally awarded €5.2M from the Higher Education Authority PRTLI Cycle 5 to build the repository and research centre, DRI is funded from 2017 by the Department of Education and Skills via the Higher Education Authority and the Irish Research Council. Key Accountabilities

  • Working closely with the DRI Director in the day-to-day running, project planning, scheduling and administration of the DRI and DRI partner projects (the DRI programme).
  • Preparing financial and project reports on all aspects of the DRI programme projects for funding bodies, Auditors, and other bodies as required in accordance with GDPR guidelines and internal policies.
  • Supporting the budgeting and maintenance of the programme’s financial records, invoices, and payments, as required within the role level remit.
  • Working to, and co-ordinating with various governance boards including the DRI Board.
  • Membership of a number of key programme committees and taskforces
  • Managing and supporting various DRI events including education and outreach activities.
  • Assisting with DRI website and social media, as arises.
  • Preparing and organising project meetings; drafting minutes and agendas and undertaking follow-up action as required.
  • Administration of the central partner document management system and DRI Google Drive.

Leading the Membership Administration process, which includes:

  1. Assisting in the development of the DRI membership base (e.g. meetings with potential members, letter campaigns).
    1. Coordinating and continuing to develop the communications strategy to attract and maintain members.
    2. Serving as a liaison point for existing and potential members to assess needs and ensure they are being met.
    3. Coordinating sign up, and billing, and administrative maintenance of new members.

Essential Criteria

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of one year’s experience in Project Management.
  • Experience managing budgets with a preference for multiple budget lines and experience with research project funding.
  • Demonstrable financial/accounts management experience in a similar realm.
  • Strong IT skills including Windows/Outlook/MS Word, PowerPoint and Project. Fluency in Excel is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) with an excellent command of English.
  • Excellent organisational skills with experience of working in a fast-paced environment and to deadlines. 

Desirable Criteria

  • Project Management certification (eg Prince2, PMP, PgMP).
  • Experience in event management.
  • Experience working with exchequer-funded projects.

Length of post

This posting is to cover a period of maternity leave. It will therefore be for a period of 9 months with the possibility of a limited extension.


The salary scale is a seven-point scale, from €35,976 - €47,181 per annum.  Candidates should note that entry will be at the minimum of the scale in accordance with the Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest Act 2013 and therefore will not be subject to negotiation. The rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. 


The normal hours of work are 37 hours per as follows:

Hours of work may be adjusted from time to time in line with government policy.  Overtime is not paid in respect of excess attendance which, should it arise, is discharged by time-off in lieu at times agreed in advance with the project Director in writing.


The annual leave entitlement is twenty-five days per annum, pro-rata for shorter periods. Entitlement to leave for Public Holidays is in accordance with the terms of the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997.  There is a requirement to take up to 2 days annual leave where the Academy is closed at Easter and Christmas. 


Details of the appropriate pension scheme will be provided upon determination of appointee’s status. Permanent Pension Contribution:  This appointment is subject to the Additional Superannuation Contribution (ASC) effective from the 1st of January 2019.


Staff shall, if required, and at the expense of the Academy, submit to a medical examination by a registered medical practitioner nominated by the Academy and shall authorise such medical practitioner to disclose and to discuss with the Academy the results of the examination and the matters which arise from it so that the Academy can ascertain any matters that they consider might impair a staff member from properly discharging his/her duties.
