This Journal was an important periodical for the Irish language revival community in the time before the foundation of the Irish Free State.

Dr Regina Uí Chollatáin launched the Online Corpus of The Gaelic Journal/ Irisleabhar na Gaedhilge (1882-1909) at Academy House on Wednesday 23rd March at 5:30 p.m.

As part of the Royal Irish Academy’s work on periodicals for inclusion in Foclóir na Nua-Ghaeilge’s Corpas na Gaeilge 1882–1926, all of the Irish language articles from Irisleabhar na Gaedhilge (volumes 1–19) have been digitised.

These efforts are a tribute to the dedication of the six editors – Dáithí Coimín, Seán Pléimeann, Fr. Eoghan Ó Gramhnaigh, Eoin Mac Néill, Seosamh Laoide and Tadhg Ó Donnchadha and to all of the authors, some of whom took part in the Easter Rising of 1916, and to all of the people who kept this journal alive in the revival era.

The Gaelic Journal / Irisleabhar na Gaedhilge is now available free of charge as a searchable corpus here.
