Launch of Online Archive of Irish Language Texts

15 November 2011

In Academy House, on the 15th November 2011, Minister of State, Dinny McGinley, T. D. launched an online archive of Irish language texts.

As part of its Historical Dictionary of Modern Irish project, the Royal Irish Academy is compiling an archive of Modern Irish texts from the period 1600-2000.  Some of these texts were included in Corpas na Gaeilge 1600-1882.  From November 2011, the Academy is making these texts available free of charge to the general public in searchable form on www.fng.ie.  These texts can be downloaded onto eBook readers as well as onto desktop and laptop computers.

Initially, this archive contains over 40 texts published by Conradh na Gaeilge between 1882 and 1926.  Further texts from other periods and from other publishers will be added as they become available.
