The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

The Royal Irish Academy is pleased to announce funding for sixteen early career researchers under this year's Charlemont Grants scheme.

The Charlemont scheme which is funded directly by the Academy facilitates short international visits from Ireland for the conduct of primary research in any subject area including the development of new research collaborations and networks, access to research equipment and training not available in Ireland. This year the scheme will see early career researchers from seven institutes of education in Ireland travel to nine countries across Europe, the USA and Africa to undertake their research.
