The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Call for applications: 2020 US-Ireland Research Innovation Awards

The Royal Irish Academy and the American Chamber of Commerce, Ireland have announced the shortlist for the 2018 US-Ireland Research Innovation Awards.

A joint initiative of the Academy and the American Chamber of Commerce, the awards recognise excellence in research innovation, creation and invention by an organisation, as a result of US Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Ireland. These awards acknowledge exemplary ideas, originating in Irish organisations, and underpinned by innovative research, that have a strong social and /or economic impact.  

The awards are presented in three categories and the 2018 shortlist is:

Multinational Corporation Category (MNC)

  • Abbott Vascular
  • Alltech European Bioscience Centre
  • DePuy Synthes Ireland
  • Xilinx Ireland

Higher Education Institute Research Centre (HEI)

  • Connect Centre for Future Networks
  • DCU Insight Centre for Data Analytics


Small and Medium Enterprise (SME)

  • Orreco Ltd
  • OxyMem Ltd  


The winners will be announced at the American Chamber of Commerce annual awards dinner on Friday 18 May in the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road, Dublin.
