THE ROYAL IRISH ACADEMY IS IRELAND'S LEADING BODY OF EXPERTS IN THE SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Vignettes from the Irish Historic Towns Atlas

18 September 2020

As part of Culture Night 2020 we have an exhibition that offers a glimpse of town life through the Irish Historic Towns Atlas

In the below exhibition, a number of samples of maps, images and topographical information are taken from various Irish Historic Towns Atlases under the themes of Place, People, Life, Death, Rivers, Bogs, Health and Medicine. The initial twenty-seven atlases are available freely as part of IHTA Online and we hope this exhibition gives a good flavour of what is contained in the atlases!
