We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Street View virtual tour of Academy House launched

Take a tour of the main public rooms and Library of Academy House on Dawson Street, using Google's Street View technology

360-degree panoramic virtual tour of the ground floor of Academy House, home of the Royal Irish Academy since 1852, is now available on Google Maps using Street View technology. The tour includes the inner hall, the Members’ Room, the Library’s Reading Room and the Meeting Room. Academy House, originally known as Northland House after previous owner Viscount Northland, was built as a private residence c.1756.

The Academy's Street View tour is also available on the Google Cultural Institute, alongside exhibits, 1916 Portraits and Lives and Easter Rising 1916.
