The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Member Profile: Gerardine Meaney

Gerardine Meaney, known for her highly cited publications, was admitted to the Royal Irish Academy on 25 May 2018

She is professor of Cultural Theory in the University College Dublin School of English, Drama, Film and Creative Writing, and director of the UCD Centre for Cultural Analytics. Her work, focusing on Irish literature of the past 150 years, has concerned itself with the dynamics of cultural change, gender, nationality and ethnicity, and is notable for its ground-breaking nature, its use of digital tools and its interdisciplinarity.
