The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Stephen Buckley, Mathematician was admitted into the Royal Irish Academy on 25 May 2018

Stephen Buckley, professor of Mathematics at Maynooth University and currently president of the Irish Mathematical Society, is an international leader in both Harmonic and Geometric Analysis. He has also published papers in Algebra.

His contributions to mathematics within Ireland include participation in enrichment activities for gifted young people preparing for the International Mathematical Olympiad and the design of advanced courses through the medium of Irish.
