The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Member Profile: Balz Kamber

Balz Kamber, renowned geochemist was admitted to the Royal Irish Academy on 25 May 2018.

Balz Kamber holds the Chair of Geology and Mineralogy at Trinity College Dublin. He is an internationally renowned geochemist. Professor Kamber's research interests are wide, ranging from reconstruction of the geology of the very early Earth to present day geological processes; from fundamental questions to applied problems of societal relevance; and from the development of new and enhanced analytical methods to modelling.
