The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Member Profile: Grace Mulcahy

Gracy Mulcahy, leading researcher in veterinary parasitology, was admitted to the Royal Irish Academy on 25 May 2018.

Grace Mulcahy, professor of Veterinary Microbiology and Parasitology at University College Dublin School of Veterinary Medicine, is a leading figure nationally and internationally. Her research is funded by SFI (two successive PI grants) and the EU (three Framework Programme grants); it focuses on understanding helminth host–parasite interactions, using ruminant infections with liver fluke as a model system. She served as dean of Veterinary Medicine from January 2007 to August 2016.
