THE ROYAL IRISH ACADEMY IS IRELAND'S LEADING BODY OF EXPERTS IN THE SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

International Science Council (ISC)

06 July 2018

Anna Davies has been elected as an ordinary member of the first Governing Board of the ISC.

International Science Council (ISC)

In a historic meeting in Paris on 4th July 2018, the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC) merged to form the International Science Council (ISC), a unique global non-governmental scientific organisation representing both the natural and social sciences. It is the largest global science organisation of its type, bringing together 40 international scientific Unions and Associations and over 140 national and regional scientific organisations including Academies and Research Councils.

Anna Davies

Anna Davies of Trinity College Dublin, and a member of the Royal Irish Academy since 2017, was elected as an ordinary member of the first Governing Board of the ISC on July 4th. This is a fantastic achievement for Professor Davies, made even more impressive by the competition for places – there were 54 nominated candidates and only ten places available.  Professor Davies chairs the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) Future Earth Ireland expert group and is a member of the RIA Geosciences and Geographical Sciences Committee, and will no doubt continue to be an excellent ambassador and representative for us.
