Call for nominations of participants to sit on the “Respect and Dialogue” Steering Committee
29 August 2018Nominations welcome from science, policy, religion, industry, civil society, art.
The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) for Research, Science and Health are launching the ambitious project “Respect and Dialogue” to promote better understanding of the people and of their cultures and ideas irrespective of origin, religion, ideology and personal priorities.Specifically, “Respect and Dialogue” hopes to join forces with all member academies, including the Royal Irish Academy, but especially also with emblematic places that bear witness to peaceful intercultural dialogues throughout human history and that consider it part of their mission to actively drive this dialogue today and in the future.
Collectively, experts and opinion leaders could be brought together from science, policy, religion, industry, civil society, art, and thereby contribute to global, open, free, peaceful, forward-looking and enlightened discussions in order to help to overcome intellectual conflict and physical violence within and between societies. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and especially SDG 3 “Good Health and Well-Being” will constitute specific entry points for such discussions, which are of concrete interest to the individual, and for society at large.
The IAP are therefore calling for interested participants to sit on the steering committee of the project, experts in culture, philosophy, history, politics, communication and health who are willing to guide the project development strategy, dynamise the implementation and support project communication and implementation within their region and area of expertise.
The Steering committee will ideally be composed of 6-8 people nominated by member academies (e.g. Royal Irish Academy), who will work principally through e-mail and teleconferences and may also meet at events, e.g. at symposia organized under the umbrella of “Respect and Dialogue”. The first meeting is scheduled at the World Health Summit in Berlin on 14-16, October 2018. If you are interested in joining this Steering Committee, please email your CV to policy@ria.ie by 10 September 2018.
