Joint Statement by the RIA, the British Academy, the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Learned Society of Wales

The Academy today issues a joint statement with the British Academy, the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Learned Society of Wales on 'Brexit Negotiations and Exit Within these Islands.'

In welcoming this important statement, the President of the Royal Irish Academy, Professor Peter Kennedy said:

On behalf of the Royal Irish Academy I welcome the release of today’s important joint statement with our colleagues in the British Academy, the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Learned Society of Wales. This statement recognises the unique challenges arising from Brexit for the island of Ireland and stresses the need for creative thinking if we are to sustain cross-border collaboration. Through the work of our Brexit Taskforce, the Academy is actively contributing to this debate, by developing evidence based solutions aimed at securing the ongoing benefits of north-south, east-west and  international collaborations in higher education and research across the island of Ireland.
