The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Irish Research Council’s Researcher of the Year awards 2018

The Royal Irish Academy would like to congratulate Professor Anna Davies MRIA of Trinity College Dublin on being named as the main Researcher of the Year. 

The second annual Irish Research Council Researcher of the Year awards were recently held at the Royal Irish Academy. The awards recognise and celebrate the very best of the Irish Research Council’s current awardees or alumni working in academia, industry, civic society, and the public sector. 

Winner: Professor Anna Davies

Professor Davies MRIA is the principal investigator at the Environmental Governance Research Group at Trinity College Dublin and was awarded for her research in environmental governance and sustainability. 

Professor Davies was elected a member of the Royal Irish Academy in 2017. She previously chaired the Academy’s Future Earth Ireland expert group, as well as serving as an active member of the Academy’s Geosciences and Geographical Sciences Committee. In July 2018, Professor Davies was elected as an ordinary member of the first Governing Board of the International Science Council and she continues to be an excellent ambassador and representative for the Royal Irish Academy.
