The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

A joint initiative of the RIA and the British Academy to consider the implications of a potential UK withdrawal from the EU. 

In March 2016 the Royal Irish Academy and the British Academy jointly convened two high-level meetings to consider the implications of a potential UK withdrawal from the EU.

The first meeting, convened in London on 1 March, considered the implications for UK-Ireland relations

The second meeting, convened in Belfast on 11 March, considered the implications for the Northern Ireland Higher Education Sector

Both meetings were conducted under the Chatham House Rule.
