Hamilton 'Eureka Moment' Art Commission

16 July 2018

The RIA, in partnership with TII and DIT, is seeking expressions of interest to participate in an art commission to commemorate the 'Eureka Moment' of the famous Irish mathematician, William Rowan Hamilton.

This is a curated competition open to staff, alumni and students of the nearby DIT Dublin School of Creative Arts. It is a publicly funded commission to the value of €25,000 and sanctioned by the National Transport Authority as part of the Luas Cross City Project.

The proposed location of the commissioned art piece is Broombridge Station, adjacent to the site of Hamilton’s fabled ‘Eureka’ moment.

A steering committee, made up from representatives of the Royal Irish Academy, Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the Dublin Institute of Technology, will select the winning artist. The committee would consider emerging artists working together with an experienced practitioner of public commissions i.e. "a mentoring approach" or individual artists for the competition.

To register your interest and to get a full brief, please send an email to Karen Muldowney at the Royal Irish Academy: k.muldowney@ria.ie by noon on Thursday 9th August 2018.
