President's Note: Passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

09 September 2022

On behalf of the Royal Irish Academy, Ireland’s all-island body for the sciences, humanities and social sciences, I would like to express our sadness following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

She was clearly devoted to public service throughout her 70-year reign and her historic State visit to Ireland in 2011 had a profound impact on relations between our two nations, building bridges and restoring connections.

To our many members in Northern Ireland, our honorary members, as well as our colleagues in sister Academies across the United Kingdom and the sovereign states we send our deepest condolences.

Dr Mary Canning
President, Royal Irish Academy
