Suffrage poem out now!
05 December 2018Released on 5 December and available for shipping worldwide
Our future will become the past of other women is a limited-edition poem by Eavan Boland accompanied by specially commissioned illustrations by Paula McGloin. It was produced by the Royal Irish Academy and the Irish government to mark 100 years since the women of Ireland, Mná na hÉireann, were granted suffrage and first cast their ballots in the 1918 election.
It is released today, 5 December, to coincide with a reading by Eavan Boland at the United Nations in New York. This book is a rare gift and is exclusively available for sale from the Royal Irish Academy. We ship worldwide and will do our best to have your copies delivered in time for Christmas. Please consider An Post’s deadlines for posting when placing your order. We encourage our customer to collect in person from the Academy from 17 December onwards to avoid disappointment.
The poem has been translated into Irish and the other UN languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish and Russian, with translations by poets Reem Dawood, Huiyi Bao, Pura López-Colomé, Aifric Mac Aodha, Grigory Kruzhkov and Clíona Ní Ríordáin. Each page folds out and is illustrated with a figure inspired by the poem. It is suitable for framing.
