We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

'Brian Friel wrote three superb plays in an astonishing two-year burst of activity. Faith Healer was the least well received but has become perhaps the most influential'. 

The play is written in four monologues and centres around Frank Hardy, a travelling showman and occasional healer, his wife Grace, and his manager Teddy. Faith Healer first appeared at the Longacre Theatre, New York, in 1979 and was revived at the Almeida Theatre, London, in 2001.
