Modern Ireland in 100 Artworks: Faith Healer, Brian Friel

05 February 2016

Faith Healer, by Brian Friel, 1979

'Brian Friel wrote three superb plays in an astonishing two-year burst of activity. Faith Healer was the least well received but has become perhaps the most influential'.

The play is written in four monologues and centres around Frank Hardy, a travelling showman and occasional healer, his wife Grace, and his manager Teddy. Faith Healer first appeared at the Longacre Theatre, New York, in 1979 and was revived at the Almeida Theatre, London, in 2001.
