History of  Emotions Podcasts

From grief to wonder: exploring emotions in Irish History

Listen to our podcast series which presents a new perspective of how histories of locations, buildings, places and experiences are enriched and deepened through the history of emotions.  Emotions are historically variable and embedded into the history of places, informing their design and architecture, and the circulation and the dissemination of ideas.

Reflect on the multidisciplinary perspectives of the podcasters who present a wide-ranging consideration of new approaches to historical subjects.  The podcasters offer an expanding range of methodological approaches such as how histories of emotion are informed by, for example; anthropology, architecture, material culture, epidemiology, psychology, literature and other disciplines.

The series foregrounds a deeply ethical approach to thinking about the responsibilities of scholars when considering the importance of emotions in the experience, understanding and interpretation of historical events. Further, some of the podcasts address what are the ethical considerations needed when accessing archives and documents from institutional spaces, for example, hospitals and prisons.
